"Metallic Bear Series – Love & Collision"

Curator: Sumito KUBOTA

Concept
I started weaving metal washers in order to make chain-mail armor. Why did that turn into bears? It all began with trying to think of ways to use up leftover washers. It just popped in my head that a bear shape would be easy to recognize. Making them turned out to be enjoyable and it became more than I imagined. Grizzly became a Sun Bear which became a teddy bear. The subject may seem unrelated to the material, but in fact go well together. This exhibit will focus on the bear, which showed me new surprises and possibilities.

"Grow Ups"

Curator Renée REIJNDERS

Concept
The exhibition title Grow-ups illustrates that the eleven participating dutch artists have grown up, but that they choose to create their own safe, child-like environments with their art. Their art radiates a premature spirit, but is inevitably permeated with adult themes. Grow-ups exhibits Dutch artists whose work reflects strong influences on international popular culture and design, like Low-Brow, but also Japanese manga arts and consumer culture. It reflects the tension between typically Dutch and international visual elements and between a consciously naive inner space and the contemporary globalized and commercialised industrial society.
