This exhibit consists of rain photo images which were taken from 2009 to 2011. Rain is one form of water which circulates in the world. It falls from the clouds and moistens the land. Everyone knows this fact but, we can only see raindrops at the moment when they're passing in front of our eyes. The image captures the moment of falling and vanishing raindrops and enlarges it. It's the sign of the ending for one raindrop and also the moment its energy turns into something different. When it rains we are caught in the stream of something different. We stop here at this point. The signals of “start” and “stop” keep pile up somewhere on and on. When the signal rings next time, am I able to perceive it? (Tomomi Takano)
■ Judges Comments
The works were produced by using daguerreotype with her unique point of view towards “rain” which is familiar to everyone. They will show us a totally new beauty and form of nature.
(Shiriagari Kotobuki)
Takano's work is the most beautiful in the submissions for NCC2012 and it has a unique world view. Rain hits the silver film directly, then the liquid moves and the traces of it bursting open are recorded as a photograph. It's not simply the image of the light, but the evidence of the certain event as the original photograph. In the works, rain as a natural phenomenon is cut out by a horizontal plane. In the exhibit, the works are put in a horizontal way without hanging on the wall so that the viewer sees the works vertically.
The image of unknown rain to be projected is on the while plate in the dark space. You walk through the wall of a sound wave from audio spotlight in the space. I'd like to experience the exhibit.
