Italian companies have produced countless products that have captured the world. Looking further, one finds that many of those companies are located in small towns and are small family-operated business. How do these small manufacturers in small Italian towns come up with new ideas that spread throughout the world? Who are the people? Where are they located? What is the role of the designer? Masayo AVE, who has close to 20 years experience as a designer in Europe and is also currently a professor at the Estonian Academy of Arts, will shed some light and hints on how Japan's manufacturing can grow internationally.
