Gen Miyamura "image langue" Exhibition

Gen Miyamura will present his new work, "Image Langue". Miyamura developed this experimental project to apply the aesthetics of Japanese calligraphy to graphic work by a radical interpretation. Image Langue is a new language system consisting of 48 dot codes formed by Bokusho work. a form of brush calligraphy in which each dot code corresponds to Japanese hiragana characters.

Exhibit Format

"Calligraphy as graphic art"
Calligraphy as Graphic Art is the a project create new images of words by taking out corresponding dot codes from the Image Langue table and reconstructing them in collages.

”Calligraphy as a metaphorical image”
Calligraphy as a metaphorical image is not only abstract visual art but also visual poetry with the metaphorical meanings behind the work to be read.

”Special”
Work by special guest artist Kawakami Shun (artless) will also be on display.

Gen Miyamura

Born in Shizuoka, Japan, 1980 and graduted from Niigata University with a master's degree in calligraphy. Miyamura began his career as a calligrapher in 2005. Sublimating the beauty of characters or bokusho through radical approaches, he has developed his works in various media and fields, from design to fine art.

Shun Kawakami (artless)

Born in Tokyo, in 1977. Co-founder and Chief of artless Inc. 2000. Kawakami is active in many different kinds of visual communication fields including CI, branding, graphics, interactive installations, space production and video. In addition to work as a designer, he also actives as an artist, mainly graphic art and interactive art. Activities are not limited only to Japan: he also participates in art projects and exhibitions overseas. Awards include the poster design division of NY ADC: Young Guns, NY TDC, London International Award, Tokyo TDC.
